Technology Day and Dinner Celebration to honor great success story of Herrmann Ultrasonics, USA! With a moving speech during the celebratory dinner on September 10, 2015, CEO and founder Thomas Herrmann remembered the early years with only two employees and how the idea to start an American subsidiary was triggered by German customers asking for a Herrmann presence and service on American soil.
He also honored his father Walter Herrmann, who founded the German headquarters Herrmann Ultraschall in 1961, and the late John (Hans) Legat, who was the American joint venture partner when it all began in 1990. Hard work and determination were called for back then until two substantial customers, Hewlett Packard and Motorola, could be won over and the young company could start to make ground. Today Herrmann Ultrasonics employs 50 people, produces all welding tools locally and has become an established supplier of ultrasonic welding technology in the US. When it comes to welding thermoplastics with ultrasonic vibrations, Herrmann Ultrasonics Inc. in Bartlett, IL (Chicago) is a recognized industry player. Thomas Herrmann used the occasion to also honor Don Kuechler, who has been with the company for the entire 25 years and Doug Kammerer from Kammerer Sales, an active independent sales representative from the start. Last but not least Bill Lynch was recognized for building up the NONWOVENS business division and contributing to its remarkable growth rate. Consul General Herbert Quelle from the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Chicago, commended Herrmann Ultrasonics on becoming a successful distributor in a difficult environment for high-priced machine builders. He also thanked General Manager and Executive Vice President Uwe Peregi for supporting the newest chamber venture, the ICATT program. This educational model combines practice, theory and work experience. It follows a Standard Curriculum which was aligned to the successful German Dual Education System. Herrmann Ultrasonics’ first official apprentice, Andrew Splett, showed the concept at an info booth during Technology Day. Swiss born Uwe Peregi had taken the reigns from Thomas Herrmann ten years ago and continuously increased sales and employee numbers ever since. An unexpected highlight to the evening was the employee music band, the “Herrmannators”, which had formed shortly before the event. Like professional musicians, Udo ’Schnick Schnack’ Skarke, Chuck ’Six Fingers“ Hannah, GB ’Just put a quarter in me“ Wertz, Michael ’Turn it up to 11“ Lindsay and John ’Working for JTa“ Tarzynski played rock and country classics. They managed to surprise everybody and they ROCKED the tent. Earlier in the day, the first ever “Technology Day” at the Herrmann Ultrasonics Bartlett facility, was attended by over 100 customers and prospects. At workshops and company tours visitors were able to obtain in-depth information and trends on the ultrasonic welding technology for plastics, packaging and nonwovens. Four external guest speakers contributed to the successful program:
“Digital Manufacturing” – Victoria M. Holt, Proto Labs
“Ultrasonic Bond Art” – Jackie deGroot and Fabricio Arteaga Larios, The Dow Chemical Company
“Ultrasonic sealing in the packaging industry” – Dr. Duncan Darby, Clemson University
